The library was among the eight libraries of the province of Silesia, which zakwalifikowły the first round of the Library Development Programme as the leading libraries. Application Library received 438 of possible 450 points. Our library has set up a coalition (to fulfill one of the requirements of the program) and was admitted to the PRB with three partner libraries:
The Public Library in Andrychów. District Public Library in Kroczycach and Municipal and District Public Library in Pilica.
According to the procedure for competitions all the proposals were first formal evaluation, and then transferred to six-person committee to evaluate the merits. Commission will award points for:
• success in the operation of the library such as new forms of activity, use of modern technology, cooperation with other institutions,
• examples of non-investment activities of the municipality related to culture, education or social policy,
• the municipality's own resources made available to libraries.
The Committees were represented and non-governmental library of the world, having a different experience and different
way of looking at social enterprise. The results include a multidimensional assessment of proposals.
Library Development Program is a long-term and innovative project with nationwide coverage. To help libraries in small towns turned into centers of knowledge and local activity. Thanks to modern information and communication tools, the library will be able to contribute to reducing the digital divide and give the residents of small towns better opportunities for involvement in the economic and social life.
Scheduled for five years the program has a grant of EUR 28 million, passed the Polish-American Freedom Foundation by the Bill and Melinda Gates. The funds will be for training librarians, libraries, ICT support, strengthening the entire library system and a packet of information and publicity. Library Development Program in Poland is implemented by the Information Society Development Foundation, formed last year by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation.
Library Development Program supports include: the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Book Institute, Ministry of Interior and Administration, Office of Electronic Communications, marshals and governors, Association of Polish National Library, the Polish Librarians Association, Gazeta Wyborcza, Group onet. pl.
Information Society Development Foundation works closely with the Institute of books, executing commissioned by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, a government project to modernize municipal public libraries, "Library +". Both programs targeted to the library will strengthen and complement each other.
